5 Fun Ways to Host a Holiday Staff Party During a Pandemic

Virtual Wine & Cheese

The idea of eating cheese and drinking wine in front of your computer might not seem too glamorous, and it is for this reason that it’s important to send out an invitation for the event, include a dress code and provide your staff with everything they will need to attend. This staff party may be best for smaller businesses or groups.

The employer will purchase 3 reasonably priced wine types and 3 reasonably priced cheese types (one for each staff member). It is not necessary that you buy full bottles of wine since that could get expensive. Many wines can now be purchased in cans which can help to save your wallet. Staff members will take one of each home to taste during the Virtual Wine & Cheese.

Next, make sure all staff can attend. Many businesses already have access to a virtual conferencing services but for those who don’t, free conferencing is available through platforms such as Zoom.us and GoToMeeting.com. Be sure to create an account and set up your wine & cheese prior to the event.

Finally, host your wine & cheese! Go through the tastings together, as a group. Encourage conversation between attendees, talk about the different cheeses and wines, likes and dislikes.

Play a Virtual Escape Room or Game

There are many virtual escape rooms and games available online. Not all of them are actually escape rooms and not all of them can be played using a conference call type format. Here are two games (one escape room, one game) that we suggest that you can play with your staff.

The Grimm Escape – The Grimm Escape is a virtual escape room that allows your to play along with your staff. This is a story-themed adventure that takes place over Zoom.us and can be played with many players. Click here to book your virtual escape room

Among Us – Among Us is an online game available through Google Play and Apple App stores. You can play with 4-10 players. Players attempt to prep your spaceship for departure, but beware as one will be an impostor bent on killing everyone! Crewmates can win by completing all tasks or discovering and voting the impostor off the ship. The Impostor can use sabotage to cause chaos, making for easier kills and better alibis. A virtual game show can be hosted by yourself, a fellow staff member or can be booked professionally. While this type of staff gathering may seem like more of a trivia game than a party many staff members will enjoy the competition.
